What to expect

DAY 1: ARRIVAL DAY

Welcome to everyone, today we will get settled in and get to know each other. We’ll start with a fun water activity to kick off the retreat and introduce our first workshop.

Day 2-4: Water and your why

These days are subject to change depending on weather and the flow of the trip, but we plan to include two days with the hammerheads, a day with dolphins and stingrays, and a cage dive with bull sharks. Each day, we’ll wake up early with intention and enjoy breakfast together before heading out for our daily adventures. In the evenings, we’ll host workshops with Chelsy, as well as a special evening dedicated to a shark conservation talk, where you’ll learn more about these incredible creatures and the marine ecosystem of Bimini.

Day 5: Sea you later

As we pack up and prepare to leave, remember that this is not a goodbye but a heartfelt 'see you later.' Each of you will be missed deeply, and the memories we've created together will always hold a special place in our hearts.

About Bimini, The Bahamas

Bimini is a special place for me; it has so much history behind it, such as the stones that some believe belong to the lost city of Atlantis, which is thought to be part of an ancient civilization. What remains of Bimini was once the top of a mountain, and our banks were part of the Great Bahamas banks that were all, at one point, above sea water. Many people travel here to try to uncover the history that may be just off the beautiful Bimini blue coastline. Beyond that, Bimini delivers a peace that some say is hard to describe but is felt especially when diving here. It’s felt so strongly by some people, especially Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who would come here frequently and was even inspired to his "I Have a Dream" speech. The northern Bimini Mangroves are a home and nursery to many species of sharks, rays, turtles, and fish, including the bonefish that many people come seeking to catch. All in all, I feel and see the magic here, and I want others to experience it too! We will see the endangered Great Hammerhead, as we have one of the biggest populations in the world, and the only place you can see the numbers we see in one dive.

Janelle Van Ruiten

Janelle Van Ruiten is an underwater photographer, ocean conservationist, entrepreneur, and expedition leader with over 13 years of experience working closely with sharks and other marine life. Through her work, she combines a deep passion for the ocean with powerful storytelling, capturing imagery that highlights the beauty and importance of our seas.

Janelle leads expeditions around the world to create unforgettable experiences, connect with like-minded people, and bring together a community inspired to protect the ocean.

Chelsy Bell Carpenter

Chelsy Bell Carpenter is a speaker, consultant, and workplace wellness advocate dedicated to helping high-stakes professionals build sustainable, burnout-resilient careers. She equips individuals and teams with evidence-based strategies for nervous system regulation, effective communication, and disciplined performance with what she calls The Stabilization Method™. Chelsy’s work centers on the belief that drive and well-being can, and should, coexist, enabling professionals to thrive both personally and professionally.

Gigi Merlusca

With over 13 years of experience in the diving industry, Gigi Merlusca is deeply passionate about marine life and sharing that passion with others. Her career has taken her through diverse environments, including dive centers, adventure sports clubs, private motor yachts, film productions, kids’ sea camps, and underwater photography. She is proud to have introduced over 1,000 students from beginners to professionals, to the underwater world. Each experience deepens her connection to the ocean, and she remains committed to inspiring exploration, respect, and protection of marine ecosystems.
