About Me

I’m Janelle Van Ruiten a professional shark diver, underwater photographer, speaker, ocean conservation advocate, and expedition host based in Bimini, The Bahamas, with over 13 years of experience in the dive industry. The ocean has shaped every part of my life. What began as a love for marine mammals, grew into a deep respect for all marine life, especially apex predators often misunderstood and feared. Today, I work closely with sharks to help shift that fear into understanding through intentional, ethical dive experiences and visual storytelling. My work is rooted in connection to the ocean, to ourselves, and to the quiet power that comes from presence. Through guided dives, expeditions, and conservation-focused storytelling, I aim to give a voice to marine life while creating space for others to feel empowered, grounded, and deeply connected to the blue.

WHY do I do what I do?

Through my ocean Expeditions and Underwater Photography

I use my passion for the ocean to bring awareness, tor the voiceless.

I create a safe space where people can shine their light and use their voice leaving the best version of themselves- because I believe you have to find peace within, In order to create bigger change.

Why Van Ruiten Blue?

I have always been very proud of my heritage, and my last name. Its something I have always carried with pride. When my grandparents immigrated to the United States from Holland to follow their dreams, they left a lot of their culture behind. However, Van Ruiten to me has always been a reminder of where my roots are, and the reminder to follow my dreams. Although my grandparents saw the dream in the green vineyards of wine making, I have followed my childhood dreams of the blue ocean world.
